My name’s Jody Thompson – a trusted and nationally respected journalist and editor for more than two decades. I’ve worked in influential senior roles for a host of major national broadcasters, newspapers, websites and magazines including the BBC (both online and on radio at Five Live, Radio 2, Radio 1/1Xtra and 6 Music), The Sun, The Mirror, Sunday Mirror, the Mail Online, Channel 4, ITN/IRN, NME and many more since I passed my postgrad NCTJ NQJ at the Eastern Daily Press.
MY DNA IN JOURNALISM, SOCIAL MEDIA AND SETTING THE NATIONAL AND GLOBAL AGENDA:
Until July 2016, I was The Huffington Post UK blogs editor for five years from launch, building up a stable of 15,000 bloggers and helping the HuffPost UK become the third biggest online news site in the UK. I single-handedly brought in high-profile names, including Her Majesty The Queen, Prince Charles, Prince William, David Cameron, David Beckham, Jamie Oliver, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Elton John, Russell Brand, Ricky Gervais, Sir Richard Branson and many, many more due to the exceptional contacts I’ve built over the years. I garnered national and international headlines from the posts I secured and made innumerable blogs go viral. I grew the blogs audience from a few hundred to a record 2.2million UK UVs.
Since I launched my own business Jody Thompson Media Consultancy Ltd, I have worked with and continue to work with numerous high profile clients including the Institute of Directors and Director magazine, Gravity Road, City CV, Persuasion Communications, Grey London, Karmarama, MEC, Cheil, LIDA, Copa90 and The Luxury Spa Edit.
Brand partnerships I worked on in my last year at The Huffington Post (2015-2016) brought in more than £1million for blogs-led campaigns commissioned by the likes of HSBC, L’Oreal, Samsung and Kronenbourg due to the talent I brought in and my social media strategies.
I was instrumental in securing The Duchess of Cambridge to be guest editor for The HuffPost UK’s Young Minds Matter campaign, for which both The Duchess of Cambridge and Michelle Obama blogged and helped get the initiative trending globally.
I’ve also worked with Number 10 Downing Street, the offices of Tony and Cherie Blair, Gordon and Sarah Brown, Clarence House, Princess Michael of Kent as well as innumerable celebrities and high-profile names.
AN EXPERT IN MEDIA:
I’ve also appeared extensively on radio and TV as both an expert and as a presenter and have given numerous presentations to global brands over the years to teach them how to harness the power of social media.
I was commissioned by the Institute of Directors to help with editorial strategy both online and offline ahead of their 2016 annual convention at the Royal Albert Hall. My involvement increased ticket sales by 60%.
I have also advised Buckingham Palace on social media strategy and blogging.
I advise a host of some of the biggest creative agencies in the UK on consumer media and news strategies.
I was part of the select team that won a prestigious Cannes Lion award for The Huffington Post UK Conversations Start Here campaign. Using my contacts, I persuaded all the big names to take part (including Alice Cooper, Sir Martin Sorrell, Annie Lennox, Dawn O’Porter, Will Carling, Labrinth and more) – and commissioned and edited blog posts from them to win maximum impact: (https://vimeo.com/70620899 – http://gravityroad.com/huffington-post-conversations-start-here/)
I’ve organised events including HuffPost UK’s first birthday party at the Ivy Club, using my contacts with high-profile names and social media influencers to get the maximum number of headlines.
I organised the celebrity guest list to launch Arianna Huffington’s launch of her Third Metric initiative at BAFTA as well as her Thrive launch at Number 11 Downing Street, both of which got national headlines and trended as a result of the guests and social media influencers I persuaded to attend.
As well as the influential big name blog accounts I have created and curated, I have also orchestrated numerous media partnerships that were beneficial for The Huffington Post UK, instigating and creating blog accounts for the likes of BBC Five Live, Channel Four News, Vogue France, BBC Fact Checker, the Science Museum and more.
